You just listed a bunch of innovations. What the heck is innovation? Is innovation ever unstrategic? Or is "strategic innovation" redundant?

Words are thrown around in business circles--and they generate tons of buzz, emotion and excitement--but when it comes down to it, what are we really talking about?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about innovation. But "innovation" has ambiguous meaning. Ask Wikipedia. 10 definitions.

Hello Alec,

I have another article detailing my perspective on innovation versus invention that may be of some use.

Strategic innovation is focused on achieving something new, different, and valuable in relation to your strategy.

Innovations can definitely be unstrategic. PostIt notes were a product innovation that you could say was off-strategy, but I'm sure people out there can think of much better examples.
