Love the question, but I'm not sure about this application. It forces an employee to disclose what might be very personal information or fudge, sharing something more generic and not really a passion at all. For instance, the person taking my order, listed "food" as her passion. From the looks of her, that was no surprise. Here's a great application of the question though: Answer it for yourself, identifying your own passions. Then make sure you're:

The article is a great conversation starter. I'm now pondering what I would say if I had to come up with just one word to describe my #1 passion in life.

Interestingly, there is more available on employee passion than you might think. We've done a great deal of work on the subject of passion and have written a book called "The Purpose Linked Organization" that describes the 10 "passion archetypes" identified in our research. It also provides information on the strengths and vulnerabilities of each passion and other useful information about how to apply passion in the work environment to achieve great business results. Check out the story on BusinessWeek at http://www.businessweek.com/managing/content/may2009/ca20090529_897610.htm
